Since its inception in 1977, Qatar University (QU) continues to serve as Qatar’s primary institution of higher education and has become today a beacon of academic and research excellence in the region.

QU is committed to providing high-quality education in areas of national priority. Underpinning this commitment is the goal to align its colleges, programs, and courses with established international standards and best practices. As a result, QU has been successful in its accreditation initiatives, earning the endorsement of numerous leading international accrediting bodies.

QU hosts eleven colleges — College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), College of Business and Economics (CBE), College of Education (CED), College of Engineering (CENG), College of Health Sciences (CHS), College of Law (LAWC), College of Medicine (CMED), College of Pharmacy (CPH), College of Sharia and Islamic Studies (CSIS) , College of Dental Medicine (CDM) and College of Nursing.

QU offers the widest range of academic programs — 50 Bachelors, 47 Masters, — in Qatar tailoring them to meet the needs of Qatari society.

Research is an integral part of the academic environment at QU and is bolstered by the state-of-the-art Research Complex, and 18 research centers of excellence. It is further enhanced by over 500 collaborative projects in over 130 countries.

Academic scholarships

Scholarship amount:

Exemption from tuition fees

Eligiblity :

Residents of Qatar

Criteria: 

  • The applicant must have a high school certificate or its equivalent.
  • Applicant must receive the Final Acceptance (Not Provisional Admission) in the university.
  • The scholarship should be utilized starting from the semester in which the scholarship was awarded. If the student does not pass his/her first semester, the scholarship will be terminated and the student will be informed by QU email.
  • Applicant should not get benefit from this scholarship and another sponsorship/scholarship simultaneously.

 

Conditions for Continuity of Scholarship:

  • The student must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0.
  • The student must successfully complete a minimum of 12 hours per semester.
  • The student should not exceed the period for graduation according to his/her study plan.
  • The student must remain registered continuously (in Fall and Spring) until graduation.
  • Recipients of the scholarship are expected to adhere to academic regulations, policies, and procedures of Qatar University.
  • Must abide to the General Conditions to keep the scholarship.
International student scholarship

Scholarship amount:

Exemption from tuition fees

Benefits:

  • Exemption from tuition fees
  • Exemption from textbook fees
  • 500 QR monthly salary
  • Student housing (two students per room) including transportation to/from campus.
  • Annual round trip air fare ticket
  • Residence permit under QU sponsorship

 

Eligiblity :

International students

Exception :

( Students who transfer from other universities to Qatar University, visiting students, non-degree applicants and applicants seeking a second bachelor’s degree are not eligible for academic scholarships offered by Qatar University).

 

Criteria: 

  • The applicant must have a high school certificate or its equivalent.
  • A minimum high school average of 95%.
  • Applicant must receive the final acceptance in the university.
  • The applicant must meet the admission requirements for the college that they applied to.
  • The scholarship should be utilized starting from the semester in which the scholarship was awarded. The start of the study can be postponed for one semester, if necessary, conditional of approval of the scholarship committee. If the student does not pass his/her first semester, the scholarship will be canceled and the student will be informed by QU email.
  • Applicant must have a good reputation.
  • Applicant should not get benefit from this scholarship and another sponsorship/scholarship simultaneously.

H.H. the Emir of Qatar's Scholarship for Academic Excellence

Scholarship amount:

  • Exemption from tuition fees

 

Benefits:

  • Exemption from tuition fees
  • Exemption from textbook fees
  • Monthly salary of 1,000 QR for 9 months per academic year

Eligiblity :

Students of outstanding performance in the Qatari Secondary Education Certificate who wish to join an undergraduate major at Qatar University.

Criteria: 

  • The applicant must hold a Qatari Secondary Education Certificate.
  • A minimum average of 95% in the secondary school certificate.
  • The applicant should be a secondary school graduate in the same year in which the scholarship application is made.
  • These scholarship awards are only made in the Fall semester.
  • The scholarship should be utilized starting from the semester in which the scholarship was awarded. If the student does not pass his/her first semester, the scholarship will be terminated and the student will be informed by QU email.
  • Applicant should not get benefit from this scholarship and another sponsorship/scholarship simultaneously.

Outstanding performance scholarship

Eligiblity :

Academically distinguished students enrolled in the undergraduate level in QU. Applicants for this scholarship are selected on a competitive basis.

Criteria: 

  • Applicant must be enrolled at Qatar University.
  • Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50 out of 4.00.
  • Must have completed at least 30 credit hours in QU.
  • Applicant cannot benefit from this scholarship and another sponsorship/scholarship simultaneously.


Conditions for Continuity of Scholarship:

  • The student must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0.
  • The student must successfully complete a minimum of 12 hours per semester.
  • The student should not exceed the period for graduation according to his/her study plan.
  • The student must remain registered continuously (in Fall and Spring) until graduation.
  • Recipients of the scholarship are expected to adhere to academic regulations, policies, and procedures of Qatar University.
GCC States Scholarships (Embassies)

Scholarship amount:

Exemption from tuition fees.

Benefits:

  • Exemption from tuition fees.
  • Student housing (two students per room) including transportation to/from campus.

Eligiblity :

students of Gulf Cooperation Council states (GCC) who hold the High School Certificate or its equivalent from their countries or any other country but not from Qatar.

Criteria: 

  • The applicant must have a high school certificate or its equivalent.
  • The applicant must meet the admission requirements for the college that they applied to.
  • Obtain a letter from the embassy addressed to Qatar University requesting consideration for this specific scholarship.
  • Applicant cannot benefit from this scholarship and another sponsorship/scholarship simultaneously.

Conditions for Continuity of Scholarship:

  • The student must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0.
  • The student must successfully complete a minimum of 12 hours per semester.
  • The student should not exceed the period for graduation according to his/her study plan.
  • The student must remain registered continuously (in Fall and Spring) until graduation.
Talent scholarship (for bachelor degree)

Scholarship amount:

  • Exemption from tuition fees

Benefits:

  • Exemption from tuition fees
  • Exemption from textbook fees
  • Monthly salary of 1,000 QR
  • Guarantee to be admitted to the desired program of study upon meeting the minimum program admission requirements (except for medicine and dental medicine)
  • For international talented students: Student housing (two students per room) including transportation to/from campus, annual round trip air fare ticket  and residence permit under QU sponsorship

Eligiblity :

Undergraduate non-Qatari students (including international students) who are talented in the fields of scientific research, technology and innovation, literature, media, and athleticism

Criteria: 

  • The applicant must have a high school certificate or its equivalent.
  • A minimum high school average of 80%.
  • Applicant must meet the minimum admissions requirements of the program that he/she wishes to join.
  • Applicant must submit the final transcript of the 11th  grade with a minimum average of 80%.
  • Applicant must submit the final transcript of the first semester of the 12th grade with a minimum average of 80%.
  • Applicant must provide a minimum of two letters of recommendation to support the application from prestigious entities relevant to the area of talent.
  • Applicant must submit a portfolio letter presenting his/her talent and proving the recent achievements in the field of talent, specifically in one of the following areas: scientific research (includes all literary and scientific fields), technology and innovation, literature, media, and athleticism.
  • Applicant should pass the personal interview with the committee.  
  • Applicant cannot benefit from this scholarship and another scholarship simultaneously, except for international students (terms and conditions apply).
  • Applicants who have previously granted the full benefits of this scholarship are not eligible to benefit from it again for the purpose of acquiring a new academic degree.
  • The scholarship should be utilized starting from the semester in which the scholarship was awarded. For international students, the start of the study can be postponed for one

    • The student must regularly represent the university in the area of talent locally and internationally.
    • The student should not exceed the period for graduation according to his/her program.
    • The student must remain registered continuously (in Fall and Spring) until graduation.
    • The student must commit to the continuous practice and development of the talent.
    • Recipients of scholarship are expected to adhere to academic regulations, policies, and procedures of Qatar University.
GCC Qatari certificate scholarship

Scholarship amount:

Eligiblity :

GCC students who hold the Qatari High School Certificate.

Criteria: 

  • The applicant must have a Qatari Secondary Education certificate.
  • The applicant must meet the admission requirements for the college that they applied to.
  • Applicant cannot benefit from this scholarship and another sponsorship/scholarship simultaneously.


Conditions for Continuity of Scholarship:

  • The student should not exceed the period for graduation according to his/her study plan.
  • Recipients of scholarship are expected to adhere to academic regulations, policies, and procedures of Qatar University.
  • This scholarship covers all terms, fall, spring and summer/winter; however, the summer/winter terms would not be counted from the scholarship terms.
  • The student is responsible to pay the penalty or fine when withdrawing from courses or semester.
Children of QU employees scholarship

Scholarship amount:

Exemption of tuition fees

Eligiblity :

Children of Qatar University employees. The University offers a maximum of three scholarships to three children of the employee simultaneously.

Criteria: 

  • The applicant must have a high school certificate or its equivalent.
  • The applicant must meet the admission requirements for the college that they applied to.
  • The parent(s) of the applicant must be a full-time employee at QU.
  • Applicant cannot benefit from this scholarship and another sponsorship/scholarship simultaneously.


Conditions for Continuity of Scholarship:

  • The student should not exceed the period for graduation according to his/her study plan.
  • Recipients of scholarship are expected to adhere to academic regulations, policies, and procedures of Qatar University.
  • This scholarship covers all terms, fall, spring and summer/winter; however, the summer/winter terms would not be counted from the scholarship terms.
  • The student is responsible to pay the penalty or fine when withdrawing from courses or semester.

 

College of Education Diploma Scholarships

Scholarship amount:

Exemption from tuition fees

Benefits:

Exemption from tuition fees

Eligiblity :

Students who want to join the diploma programs offered by the College of Education.

Criteria: 

  • The applicant must meet the admission requirements for the college that they applied to.
  • The applicant must be working under the ministry of education and higher education or any governmental educational organization.
  • It should be the first time for the applicant to apply for a scholarship in the same category offered by the College of Education.

 

Conditions for Continuity of Scholarship:

  • The student must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50 out of 4 at the end of each semester.
  • The duration of studying shouldn’t exceed two semesters excluding the semesters of absence and withdrawal.
  • The student should not be absent or withdraw for two separated or consecutive semesters.
  • If the student fails in meeting any of the conditions to maintain the scholarship, it will be canceled and the student will have to pay the tuition fees of the following semesters.
  • After the student’s scholarship has been canceled, he/she will not be eligible to receive that scholarship again, regardless of whether the situation is amended. In all cases, the academic policies will be applied to the student as shown in the Student Catalog.
Short Scholarships for the Arabic Program for Non-Native Program

Learn Arabic for one Academic year

 

Eligiblity

 Non-native speakers students from outside Qatar.

Criteria: 

The student can be nominated by one of the organizations which have an established agreement with Qatar University and admitted by the President of Qatar University

  1. Must have a minimum of a high school diploma. (University graduates are preferred.)
  2. Must be between 18 and 40 years of age.
  3. Priority is given to applicants with at least basic knowledge of the Arabic language (knowledge of the Arabic alphabet and basics of reading and writing).
  4. Applicants to the ANNS Center should be able to communicate, either in English or Arabic, with the administration of the university and the university community.
